The Mystery of Lighthouses

Lighthouses fascinate me.  They are not only beautiful but they have some great stories that go along with them.  I love the Nubble Light located in Maine.  There's not a summer that goes by that my family and I don't visit it.  This last time I took more pictures of the Nubble (not that I don't already have enough) and I was inspired to do something special with the photo.  That's when the idea of making art tiles popped into my head.  I then started looking at all the lighthouses in Maine to make a collection.  I also decided not to make coasters but to make the tiles to display either on an easel or plate hanger.  I also wanted to put a brief history of each lighthouse on the back of the tile.  I then started to research each one's history. 

The Nubble Light was built after the shipwreck of the Isidore off the coast of Cape Neddick. All 16 men on board died and according to legend the Isidore reappears as a ghost ship along with its crew. 

One of the keepers had a 20 pound cat that would swim across the canal to the mainland to hunt rodents.

Lighthouses of Maine

Oh how I love the coast of Maine.  A recent visit to Maine inspired me to created art tiles of Maine's lighthouses.  A brief history of each lighthouse will also be included along with an easel for displaying your tile.  Collect them all.  Here is a preview of what to expect.  This is an original photo of the Cape Neddick Lighthouse, also known as The Nubble Light.  It is located in York, Maine.  Follow my blog for all the latest updates.

Custom orders are non-refundable and need to be paid for before I begin work on it. A 5" easal is included and your tile will be packaged in an ivory organza bag. Hooray for the red, white and blue isn't just for the holidays. It is an every day celebration. This was sent to me in an email.  I found it to be quite phenomenal so I thought I would share it with you.   

PHENOMENAL TWO LETTER WORD

UP This two-letter word in English has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that word is'UP.' It is listed in the dictionary as an [adv], [prep], [adj], [n] or [v]. It's easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP, and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report? We call UP our friends, brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and fix UP the old car. At other times, this little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look UP the word UP in the dictionary.
